I am planning to purchase one. When I look at amazon.com, it said that the tripod ring is designed for 70-200 f4, 300mm f4, and 400mm f5.6. Hey guy, I have the 300mm f4L already but I cannot fit the tripod ring in my 70-200mm f4L!
The tripod ring on my 300mm f4L is tripod ring B, but the listed triod ring is tripod ring A. What's the difference?

Tripod Ring A & B are different things - different sizes for different lenses. Yes the tripod ring for the 70-200/4 is the same as the one you get if you buy a 400/5.6 L. The ring that comes with the 300/4 L IS is different - will fit the 100/2.8 USM macro if you get an adapter from Canon. Some lens come with rings/collars, some don't. Sort of like hoods. Some do, some don't.

I bought the Tripod Mount Ring A(B).. the black one for my 79-200 f/4. It's supposed to only fit the 200 f/2.8L but it fits fine. I'm assuming hte A(A) is the white one? It should fit...

The 300 f/4 L uses Tripod Ring A, the same as the 70-200 f/4 and 400 f/5.6 L.
The 300 f/4 L IS uses Tripod Ring B (same as 70-200 f/2.8 )
