Nice shots. My sister-in law works for a pro baseball team and I've been bugging her to try and get me access to to shoot just once. I told her I'd even go for just a couple innings and not a whole game.....maybe one day!

horizons are off mate.

Good grief. Now I remember why I don't post pics. He didn't say he was a pro, just that he was (understandably) thrilled to get the opportunity. I'd take crooked horizons with a P&S to get access like that any day.

Good shots. I am sure the thrill of being there was awesome, and the souvenirs you got beat any that I ever took home from a game!

But it is such a easy thing to fix. There really is no excuse for it.

How dare someone try to help him get better images, the nerve!!

Since he's using a short lens that means there's plenty of crop room, and that makes fixing them easy and can turn a good shot into a great one. Be happy people are taking the time to try and help the learning process as I'm sure most want to improve and not just be happy to be there.

To the OP: #1 is great, kind of the new hope springing up with the flowers and being in the new stadium - least us Mets fans are hoping after the last two years! Others I would just try to straighten and tighten if possible, the exposure and everything looks really good.

Helping someone is one thing, but making a remark about his horizons and not another word doesn't seem helpful. I get the point, but this is the sharing section not the C&C section. I assumed that critique was reserved for the C&C forum or when someone asked for it. My bad.

I had no one to help me when I first started shooting NFL and MLB games. The assignment editor threw me to the wolves and I had to produce. That's what they were paying me for. I wasn't about to walk up to Peter Read Miller or Kevin Terrell and ask them for help. Honestly, I didn't mean to come off sounding so rude in my original post. Unfortunately i'm not perfect like some indivduals on here and I make mistakes.

I can see your point in that it may have been better with more info, but really see nothing rude or problematic in how he wrote it. It was just short and to the point, same as all those "great shots" posts that really are not helpful either. From an experienced shooters standpoint you can assume this person was in the photo pit on assignment and handing them into an editor - in that case you better hand in quality or you won't get the next assignment. These are good, just needs what he said to straighten the horizons and possibly tighter crops.

I'm agreeing with you and don't see anything rude about it. I had a mentor of sorts starting out (shot with him a lot at the same locations, traveled with him, etc) but would have been better served thrown to the wolves! The guy was absolutely horrible in every aspect of the word - as a photographer, as a person, as a professional. Would have loved to have advice back then (blunt or not) on a board like this, just didn't exist.

interestingly enough, Miller would have likely helped you had you asked.
Never shot with him but from what I hear, true.

I understand, I just thought it was reserved for C&C and the sharing section was the gallery so to speak. Like show pics you are excited about of little Timmy and what not. And I did said 'my bad' after an explanation. Now that I understand that he was truly trying to be helpful and it wasn't just a 'drive-by' critique, it puts in into context a little better. Thus why sometimes saying more can be helpful in determining one's intent on a forum where you can't see body language or hear tone.

To everyone, especially the OP, my remark wasn't meant to start a debate, that's why I put the roll eyes thing afterwards to hopefully convey some sort of levity. It failed and this is waaay off topic now.

I apologize to the OP for derailing the thread. Now, back to the game...

Ok, wow I didn't expect to get so many responses. I would have never known my horizons were off if you didnt say. Im new to photography and i got this opportunity only because i am a friend of a friend. I did my best with the equipment i had, which was sub par to the other photographers in the photobox. This is my first time EVER shooting a sports event and i am sure i will progress as i go to more games...if im invited back. I dont even know how to fix the horizons in photoshop, thats prob something i am going to have to read up on. Thank you all for the positive comments/ constructive criticism. If anyone else has anything else they can add to help me, PLEASE DO!

For your first time you did good man. Just keep in mind that crooked horizons are no bueno. Maybe shoot wide open to blow out the background and crop your photos in photoshop a little bit tighter. Keep up the good work man!

While cropping put the mouse by one of the corners of your crop space and you'll be able to rotate it to straighten things out.
