I don't use one, the LCD isn't exposed, there's a plastic cover over the top of it which you can replace if it gets scratched. If you want, buy a PDA screen protector, they're cheap.

I have screen protectors on the LCD display of both my SLRs.
This is the one I use. You can cut them to size..

Hoodman has an intersting product, been thinking about getting it. But right now I'm using my Ipaq's screen protector and it's already peeling.

I have been using a PDA type protector on my 300D and an Olympus C4000z and was very pleased, but then I thought I try out the Da rebel protctor, from http://www.daproducts.com/
The picture quality of the LCD has gone up 100%.
I would highly recommend

I got a set of 4 CROCFOL Premium protectors for £6.00 incl. P&P for my 300D. Ebay ID jodahavi and provided a reliable service. First one I made a pigs ear of fitting, but second one is fine ... and I have two spare should I erm .... I dunno! Maybe I need to buy two more 300D's   They're cut to fit and clearly a rip off for little bits of plastic, but I thought the protection would add to resale value long term, so quite happy.

I used a 2-inch-wide piece of clear packing tape, and then I cut the edges with an X-Acto knife. So, it probably cost me one cent.

I use a cheapy PDA protector cut down. And, it actually saved my screen from a nasty blob of black tar type stuff. Fortunately that was the only part of the camera that got smeared.

The only thing I like about Nikons is the clear plastic protector they have covering they're LCD screens.

Really. I think they look goofy as hell. I have never protected any of my Canon cameras with their built-in LCD protectors. Have never scratched one. As it is a new one is a mere 10 bucks or so. I rarely do much previewing anyway except for histogram and have the replay function shut off on all my cams.
I have yet to see an LCD protector that didn't muck up the view. Personally I think the public has been induced into LCD paranoia by the LCD protector companies. :)
Anyway, going on 4 years with nary a scratch on any Canon LCD cover.

There's a big range in the quality of the PDA and cellphone screen protectors. I got a pack of Palm original for my PDA and they are rubbish. Impossible to apply without getting bubbles, and they make the screen less clear. Now I get them from www.zxpro.com. They are relatively expensive, but are very clear and last me at least 3 months on my cell phone and much longer on the PDA . No doubt you can buy the same quality in the USA, but for anyone who can't I'd recommend ZxPro. Think I'll put one over my lens as well. Don't want to get the UV filter scratched :)

I just ordered a new LCD cover for the 20D from Canon as a backup.
It only cost $13 CDN. The original is so hard to scratch that there is no need to put a protector on it. And since a whole new cover is only $13, that is the way to go imho.

How hard is it to replace the LCD cover?
Where can I order one in the US?

It's not that hard.
Just get a suction cup, like the suction cup hangers you buy at Home Depot, and suction to the cover, and then pull. It will pop off.
