I went there last week (20/4 to 23/4) with my wife on free & easy package tour. It was a 4 days 3 days package which travel by SilkAir (available on Wed and Sat only) from Singapore direct to Siem Reap airport weekly and includes accommodation of 4 stars hotel ( City Angkor ) and free breakfast daily. The tour package is from Genting Travel Agency. The hotel to the angkor wat is about 15 mins car travel distance.
Siem Reap is a full tourist place. All depend on temples for living. Without these places, people would not be staying there. Since it is a tourist place, the things are pretty expensive like
- all items are in US$
- Cambodia Visa US$20 per pax
- Buffet lunch or dinner meal is about US$10 to US$12 per pax
- Angkor pass ( 1 day US$20 and 3 days US$40 )
- Airport Tax return flight is US$25
- Local Tour Guide US$20 per day
- Local Car Transport US$20 per day
Many people visit Siem Reap via Bangkok for cheaper cost.

Fantastic! I really do what to visit Angkor Wat and take 5 x 2GB CF cards with me :-) (I have 4 x 2GB, one more and no excuse not to go!)
I watched a BBC2 thing called treasures around the world on something like that and Angkor Wat was featured. The buildings and surrounding areas look so fab.

Megaweb,
Awesome shots of the Angkor area. I love the Monks. I was there about two years ago. Did you watch the sunrise from inside Angkor Wat?? Truly spectacular

Great shots, megaweb! Ths sunset shot was breathtaking.
I saw a documentary that talked about the tree. It was originally from a seed in a bird's dropping on the roof hundreds, if not thousands, of yrs ago. The tree is getting heavier and crashes the building underneath.
Thanks for sharing.

I brought 1x 2gig CF, 1x 1gig CF and 1x 10 gig portable storage. Total capture is 8 gig.

So sad to say, my wife and I did not see the sunrise. We do not want to pay extra US$20 for sunrise.

Mega,
You shouldn't have had to pay extra to visit at sunrise, you should have been able to come and go as you pleased with the pass. But that was two years ago

I went 2 years ago too and after paying for the pass could come and go as I pleased. These really brought back some memories.....great shots. As for the tree, this is one of many growing out of the top of buildings. If I remember correctly, the one here is the same as in the movie Tomb Raider.

You are right. We trusted the local tour guide who asked for extra for sunrise. My wife and I should have taken the Tuk Tuk (motorcycle) transport.

Great shots Megaweb! I especially liked the photos of the people. I'm planning on going to Cambodia in a couple of months. Did you run into any problems taking photos? Weather conditions? Harsh daylight? No photos or tripod restrictions? How did people respond to having their photo taken?
Any help or advice from Megaweb or anyone else would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Brandon

I was heartbroken to miss out on Cambodia on my last big trip after we'd done all the planning, but I hope to go back and try again. The prices are expensive by local standards but very cheap relatively. Try and find a tour Guide in London for $20/day  I don't mind paying that kind of price too much. Hopefully it at least part supports the local Sangha. One of the Temples on Ko Samui in Thailand I remember was like Las Vegas in terms of turning over tourist cash  Hopefully, it's all filtered into good works. Nice images.
