How do these shots rank as a newbie photog to the forum?

Not too bad. The only suggestion is you could get a little closer....

Seriously, these are unreal. Very nice work. Very nice indeed! Focus, DOF, color, all seem right on.

Thanks! Both shots were taken through the wire on cages. The owl shot had to be manual focus because the AF just wouldn't stop hunting so I know the shot could have been sharper but it's tough with the small viewfinder on the 300D. The eagle shot needed a little photoshop work to remove the verticle lines from the wire on the cage too.

Thanks a lot but you should see how many non-keepers I've shot! ;)

Jon, nice shots!

Is this the same Jon Foster from that "other" forum?

edit~Never mind Jon, I did my research and answered my own question. Welcome to this board! BTW, I have the same name here as the "other" board.

Thanks a lot but you should see how many non-keepers I've shot! Old saying: "Amateurs take 1,000 pics & show them all. Pro's take 1,000 pics & show the best one!" ;-)

Great shots. The 75-300 IS, does produce nice results once in while...

I hear ya... I have lots of shots from the good old film days that I'll never do anything with. But I'm shooting a lot more with digital now. I love the histogram!

Thanks. We were at the Potter Park Zoo in Lansing Michigan on a cold rainy day a few weeks ago. The eagles were outside in a huge cage and they were soaked from the rain. Actually he/she looked really pissed to be out in that weather too.
