I've been doing research on setting up a credit card processing account for my business (I use Exposure Manager for online sales), but I need a solution for on site during Team Photo Days. Are there certain processing companies anyone would recommend? Some companies have higher fees but others want long term contracts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Ryan

I'd love to hear if you can find any company that doesn't want a long term contract! one option might be to use paypal's virtual terminal if you have internet access.

I called Heartland and Central Payment Systems....both didn't seem too interested in my business...

If SmugMug had a way to use coupons (I hear that they are working on it) I'd go that route...

Check with your local bank re: setting up a biz account. They will point you in the right direction for a CC terminal and the appropriate fees.

I can get a free terminal that connects to my laptop w/ broadband card and will process on site. I have yet to need such a thing, but know where to get it when I need it.

There are companys here that will lease you a machine for as long, or as short a period as you need, even by the hour.
They will help you set up the merchant account with the bank as well.

Talk to your bank, look around a bit more, maybe ask some local store owners who they use for thier eftpos services etc.

Good question...check out the similar threads at the bottom of the page, cause I was looking too and I see its a common question

Yes there are companies that will lease to you by the hour, but you need your own merchant account to use them... and the merchant account has a minimum contract and carries a monthly fee. There's no getting away from long term contracts one way or another, and if anyone has experience that differs I'd love to be proved wrong.

I use Paypal. Just have them write their CC number on the order form, and you can process the cards back at your office.

Our band used paypal for the longest time. We even set up a laptop that people could use to send a paypal payment at our shows (most places had free wireless). We've also taken cc numbers and processed them at the office too.

Isn't there an iphone app that will let you do that too?

I hate to say Paypal as well, they have a mobile option you can use on your computer -- it's called Virtual Terminal -- (I assume you'll have a computer with you) and now days any IP capable phone either has a browser built-in or you can attach a dongle to and use it as a modem. Worse comes to worse, Verizon has that PCMCIA 3G card that you can use to get on the net.

Someone referred me to this company - I do not know anything about them but it looks like their terminals are free if you use their service.
