View Full Version : Have You Experience Moisture Problems With Pelican or Any Other Case?

I'm just curious since I finally broke down and ordered some silica gel to be stored in three different Pelican cases.

I ordered some small reusable devices that you plug in and heat up so the beads can be re-used, and before I knew they were reusable I also ordered a couple quart sized containers of replacement desiccant.

Thinking about packing some into all my camera bags that I use for storage and I'm wondering if any one else has experienced mold problems and can share any tips and experiences.

Thanks

I have always been concerned with locking in moisture in my Pelican cases-- so I too have silica gel and other beads that take care of that for me.
I typically have a routine where I leave my case open in my office - for a day or so after I use it heavy or in wet conditions -- to air it out a bit.

Thanks for your reply Scott,

I may start that practice also if I find myself out during wet weather. I was concerned with temperature changes since in the Winter it gets so cold here in Minnesota while still getting into the nineties during the Summer.

I once had a Nikon lens that I loved until I took it in and was told the glue was separating from changes of environment. It was no cheap lens either!

I also worry about what happens after having the camera in a hot trunk during warm weather. I know it's stated to avoid this sort of temperature extreme, but real life situations make it pretty difficult.

I keep the pelican silica gel in my 1624. Better safe than sorry.

I recommend a product called Zorb-it. It never needs anything done to it and have been using this in both my Pelican cases for a few years in the humid southeast.

Kind of late for me but the product definately looks like one I would have considered if I knew about it prior to ordering what I did.

Seems more sized and geared towards photographers.

I lived in the Caribbean with near %100 humidity. My pelican case was issue free the whole time.

I'm assuming that's with no moisture protecting product. Do you leave you case closed tight for any length of time?

If you take it into the hot sun on humid days, do you take precautions when packing it away again?

I never had any dessicant. It was indoor most of the time time. This is in a house where we had to stick our pillows in the drier every night and my wife refused to sit on the couch.

Humidity was insane.

I took my lenses out all day then inside to AC where they should have fogged up like mad. No worries. Humidity doesn't seem to faze anything I own
