debating on which white balance card/cap/device to use to set custom white balance and i am wondering which of the following POTN members use and why???

advantages/disadvantages

cost

accuracy

convenience

etc.

as of know i am using a portabrace white balance card

None of the above. I use the Photovision Digital Calibration Target. There's a link in my signature with a sample.

Shoot in RAW, adjust in post if AWB was off... for the work I do I haven't felt the need to change things. Yet.

well thank you...that is a great thread, ive tried the manual 1-1/3 stop technique and its near perfect bw!

I use a peice of grey ripstop nylon pulled tightly over the lens, mf set, take an image that will give me a decent rep of the LIGHT SOURCE, not the reflected light from the subject, set that for my custom and then shoot raw just to be able to adjust more easily and with wider variance. It is not perfect, but its cheap, and closer than AWB most times.
If I have a card nearby (at home doing studio stuff) I MIGHT use that system, and of course, the grey sheet can double as a card in the field if the subject is critical and stationary-Rare.

I just got my expodisc yesterday. All I have to say is this thing makes all of the colors right without any Post. I feel it is worth every cent. I would buy it again if I had too.

^+1 i got to try an expodisc and it is pretty darn accurate, better then my $5 white balance neutral card IMHO

i will try to post comparo shots later this week
