View Full Version : G6 & ZoomBrowser concerns

Hello all. I recently just purchased a G6 and love it immensely! It's quite a drastic jump from my old digital camera (Kodak DC-260 - please, don't laugh too hard).

I have a couple concerns regarding the software included with the camera. First off, it appears to be impossible to import from the camara to a network drive. Also, pictures that are stored on a network drive come up as protected in ZoomBrowser, so no editing or deleting them. Has anybody found a way around these limitations? I'm guessing Canon (or whoever the actual software developer is) wants to limit the use of their application to a single computer. If it's not possible to use the included software, then what are others using to import and store on network/remote drives?

Thanks to all
Jeff

An option to consider.....

Instead of hooking the camera up to the computer via the USB cable, I remove the compact flash card and insert it into a flash card reader. The files on this "removable drive" are easily and quickly transferred to a desired location on the local pc hard drive or network location -- for use by zoombrowser or other software.

Bottom line for me -- using a flash card reader

I also use a flash card reader instead of connecting the camera to the usb port.

However, your camera is PTP compliant. Assuming your PC is using Windows XP, you should be able to just plug it into the USB port and download your files using Windows Explorer, bypassing Zoombrowser altogether.

I just plugged my G5 in to verify and the camera shows up in the "My Computer" directory as "Canon Powershot G5". I can then copy, move or erase the files like any other drive.
