One of my first shots in late April with my new Canon S500, showing BNSF4422 on its way east through Boulder, CO. Image was cropped from full size, and sharpened using Picture Window Pro 3.5. The engine is a bit dark, but I have not tried to adjust the brightness of the image. I do like the fresh green color of the spring leaves. Camera on "manual", ISO50, no telephoto.

Always good to find another train lover with a camera!
I think the engine is trying to hide in the woods. Not too bad, though you'll probably be positioning yourself with the sun in your favor next time.
You're going to be pretty happy with the S-500.

Thanks, Tom. I was in my car when I heard the train whistling through town. I quickly headed for an intercept, but barely got there in time. I didn't even have the camera out of my pocket when I first saw the nose of the engine appear from behind a building - this was truly a point and shoot picture. Five minutes earlier, and I could have been on the south side of the tracks.

Trains are cool. Big trains, little trains, all trains!
