hi motorsports gurus, just want to pickup some thoughs on the photos below in relation to shot composition. i know they are under exposed. the weather that day was shocking. these were also shot in jpeg format as the XS is not great in raw mode for shooting fast moving subjects. also lens selection was limited to a tamron 18-270 with vc turned off and a ef 75-300. all shots were taken at 1/1000, lowest f-stop possible 5.6~6.3 iso from 400~800

any tips for shooting on overcast days would also be great

I'm not a motorsports gurus but i think that every shot except the last are overexposed, the white on the powerboat are burned.

Especially when the condition of the light are poor a better autofocus sure help a lot, however if you happen to participate in the next occasions and if the AF is insufficient could be use the manual focus on a set point given the path is predictable.

cheers for the input, i'll keep trying. i started out shooting in Tv mode but they were coming out a little too dark. i then tried switching to manual and using the light meter in the view finder as a guide. going by that i tried to keep the meter in the center by changing ISO speed and also shutter speed. there has also been some PP done to these

les_au you should use an exposure strict on the white of the powerboat.

I have reduced the luminosity on the first (0.60) on the second (0.85).
On the first will be necessary a selective cleared on the number.
On the second you must use the level for the head of the person so you can obtain a good balance. I'm post only the first part of the "operation". ;)

The second of your post is in most part irrecuperable. :(
