This is probably a stupid question for the more knowledgable people on here, but I have searched the net and can not figure out why the D30's and D60's I am finding are around the same price range. The D60 is newer and almost twice the megapixels.
Why are these 2 cameras almost the same price everywhere I look? Why wouldn't I spend the extra $100 for the D60?
Thanks,
Tom

A digital camera is more than mere megapixels.

Obviously so, that's why I was hoping someone with more experience could point out some of the main differences.

And where are you finding these cameras? The going price for a used D60 kit is about $1900 from what I have seen and about $1300 for a D30.

First of all, you MUST get the motor winder.

Sorry. That is a vague attempt at digital photography humor.
I have one D60, and I don't need more.

Shame on you Robert! :D Don't forget to rewind your DVD's before returning them to Blockbuster!

First there is more then $100 difference between the two. If you can find a used D60 the difference is still more like $800 or more.
As far as the difference between the two cameras there are minor differences but the main one is the size of the sensor. My opinion is that the D60 is not worth $800 - $1000 more then the D30. If you can wait until March then you'll be able to see what is going to replace the D60. Hopefully it will perform better then the D30/60.

You might think that the huge difference in sensor pixel count would make a huge difference in output, but this does not seem to be the case. A difference, yes.
I was attending a photography seminar today, and one of the instructors showed a 20x30 inch print that he had made from a digital image... captured on a 3 megapixel camera. Some fractal interpolation had been done, and it had been done very well. I studied that large print for some time, halfway expecting to find some evidence of photoshopping. Not.

That's a great point Robert and exactly why I have no desire for a 1Ds. With my D60 I can print out awesome 30x50 prints. That's more than I will ever need as in all the years I have been hanging an SLR around my neck I have NEVER printed anything that large be it film or digital. Of course that almost $8k price tag is also a huge stop sign for me too, but the point is I just don't need it.

My philosophy is that there is no need to move on to next (better) model before I can fully take advantage of the current.
Still shooting with wonderfull D30 :)

I completely agree, i am still learning how to "Fully" use the D30 13 months after having bought it.

I don't know how to "fully" use my D30 but that doesn't stop me from knowing that it isn't sufficent for what I like to shoot.
I love my D30 and it does a terrific job but I need a camera with better AF and better high ISO performance. The D60 is no better. Let's hope that the next version is better.

I have had my D30 for about 8 months now. I have no intention of making large scale prints so I dont think I can justify spending the extra money for a D60. I doubt if I would see any difference in 8 x 10 print quality. I would rather spend the money on 'L' lenses and that way I know I will definitely see a difference.
