In a medium where the negative allways seems to out number the positive.. (forums) I thought I'd share my most recent experience with excellent Canon Service.
My new (used) lens had a damaged EF mounting ring.. (this was disclosed before purchase,. no surprise, and was part of the reason for the significant savings I got)
At first I thought I would have to send the whole lens to Canon,. but after closer inspection I decided it was a part I was fully comfortable replacing myself.
I ordered the part on Monday from Canon in NJ,.. they told me over the photne to expect it to ship in 5 to 10 days.
I received the part the following day on Tuesday!!!!!!
(now installed and good as new :) )
This is similar to the service I received when my 10D shutter went bad over a year ago. The turn around time was less than half what they warned it might be.
Anyone else have good luck with Canon service?

Nope... I'm extremely "irritated" with Canon Service at the moment. I reckon "poor" is the best I can come up with.

I've had very good service from the Canon service center in Montreal. Each time I have used them they have beat their return date by several days.
The more and more you read about service levels I think that it is not a corporate problem but one that varies from location to location. A mere 6 hours down the highway from here lies the city of Toronto and I have yet to hear a pleasure experience on the Canon centre there.

I fortunately haven't had to use Canon service yet, but it seems quite a few people across the pond have had absolutely horrid experiences with Canon UK, whereas us who can send to Canon Irvine seem to have a much more positive experience.
I was planning on sending my 10D in with my lenses for a focus check/calibration (It seems pretty spot on, but I've always been curious) but I think I'd rather just upgrade to a newer body! :)

I'm neither happy nor unhappy with Canon service, probably more on the happy side than unhappy. They checked the calibration on my 50mm F1.8 that I bought overseas from B&H, and didn't charge me a cent. It took about 2 weeks, but that's about average around here i'm told.

Canon in Irvine, CA treated me OK. The cost was what they estimated, and the repaired item was returned to me earlier than was estimated.

I'm very happy with Canon service too. I dropped a brand new Canon camcorder a few years ago on the pavement and brought it to the Jamesburg, NJ facility. The guy spent about 10-15 minutes trying to fix it right there, then determined it needed a couple of parts replaced that were not quick fixes. I had it back a few days later, and they never even asked me if I had dropped it, which was obvious from the scratches all over the case.
I also have positive feedback (yet slightly mixed) about Mack Camera service, the company that provides the extended warranties on purchases from B&H, Unique Camera, Beach, etc. They fixed a Sony P&S last yeat that was also dropped and had a broken LCD, even thought the warranty says it does not cover LCDs or damage caused by mishandling. It took about 10 weeks, which was the negative side, but we thought we would be turned away because of the obvious signs of damage, so we could hardly complain.

Iv had two canons in the past 5 years, and so far had no need of thier service :)
But it's nice to see some postive feedback, working in the service industry can be very trying sometimes, I hope you passed onto canon your pleasent surprise :)
