I used the Hoya R72 on my 10D (before I upgraded) and I got some nice stuff. Since the 300D is basically a stripped down 10D, it should work just as good.

Hoya R72 is a good, dark filter, don't worry about the wrong investment. The real problem is whether your 300D is the modified one or not. You know, inside the camera, right in front of the sensor there is an IR-cutoff filter wich doesn't allow much of the infrared light to pass through. So if your camera still has this filter you won't be able to get decent exposure times (will be kind of 1s - 20s even in daylight).

What he said. The 2 shots I posted were in broad daylight and at 20 second exposures.

holy crap. lol those are really long exposures. =X so how would i go about modifying my camera to not have this IR cut off filter? can i do it myself or is it pretty much not going to happen? eeh.
thanks for your help guys. it means alot. =)
p.s. those two shots are pretty awsome looking. =)

This will most like invalidate you warranty so think twice before tackling this.

I was getting pretty good Near-IR results with my 50/1.4 at 4 seconds (can't remember the rest of the settings, may have been ISO 400 or more at f2.8 or wider) using a Hoya Rm72 on my 10D.
