Hey guys,

i've posted a thread "24 inch imac vs DIY PC" quite some time ago, and today, i impulsively bought the following:

-Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower Gamer Case 900 ATX 9 Drive Bay - $90
-2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1500GB 1.5TB SATA2 7200RPM - $128

Now that i have this, i need the innards... Since i want the system to last me for the next 3 years, i want to buy a core i7 920.

I need the following:
- Motherboard: I'm thinking Asus P6T
- Ram: Don't Know Yet
- Video Card: Don't Know Yet
- Power Supply: Don't Know Yet
- HDD: 2 seagates.. thinking of buying an extra smaller 640gb hd for applications and whatnot as the 2 1.5TB will be specific for photos and work only. What do you think?
- Monitor: 2 x 24" monitors. I've always dreamed of a dual monitor rig, i guess i can now have it. :D
- Heat Sink: don't know yet
- Burner (i havent used these in a LONG time): Doesn't matter... i'll find one for cheap LOL

My goals with this computer build:
- Lots of LR: exporting, and editing photos
- Some Computer gaming... L4D, and what have you. I want to run it FAST! LOL.

I dont know how to overclock, so don't bother considering it as i do not want to risk it in my amature hands. HAHA

sincerely,
Marloon

THANKS GUYS.

Well if you're going with the i7, I would suggest some of what I got:

Video Card: eVGA GTX 260. I think this is more than enough unless you're a hardcore gamer. I just play a few games but mostly counterstrike

RAM: Corsair Dominator 6GB (3x2gb) ddr3 1600.

Power supply: Thermaltake 750W with modular cables

Motherboard: Most of the computers I've built had Asus which are really good. This last build with the i7 I tried the evga x58. I love it also. You can't go wrong with either one.

OS: make sure you get vista 64 to take advantage of the 6GB.

That's a very good case - got one myself. I was actually surprised; with all those fans it's still relatively quiet.

Building a computer is a very personal thing. You could simply look at some of the threads here and see what other people are buying (My computer build thread). What I would recommend is going over to Newegg and selecting parts from each catagory and pick one of the top three 'best sellers'. That will at the very least give you products that are highly likely to be good products. Once you do that and post here people will be able to narrow down your choices and give you better advice.

The first step is 1) How much are you willing to spend (max) 2) What is this going to be used for primarily and 3) is it going to be i7, Core2Quad or AMD?

which dominator did you get?

Corsair XMS3 Dominator TR3X6G1866C9DF 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1866 CL 9-9-9-24 Core i7 Memory Kit OR Corsair XMS3 Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB DDR3 3X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 8-8-8-24 Core i7 Memory Kit

the 9-9-9-9 is expensive! HAHHA. well just another 50.

Can you use double monitor for LR?

These here have great reviews:

I actually have Mushkin. I just recommended Corsair cause everyone seems to get those. At first I actually bought 2 4Gb kits which was crashing my system. I returned it and got these instead: 6 GB (3x 2GB)

Can you use double monitor for LR?

I've never had two monitors so I can't answer that question. But that's my next goal. I want to have 2 Dell 2209WA. One is enough for me but two would look sexy.
