Hi All,

I'm looking at going for the D-lit 4 kit - the only thing holding me back is the 7mm spike fitting for the brollies - anybody know if it is possible to drill out the 7mm brolly spike fitting? (to 8mm)

Cheers all

Kaya :)

Don't do it. It's a bad idea. I would either use umbrellas with the 7mm shaft or as many of us have discovered, you can use the Softlighter II (standard version, not the 7mm version) and it works perfectly. The Softlighter gives you an umbrella-softbox, a shoot through and reflective bounce umbrella.

Cheers Robert - why not the 7 mm version ? just looking at the Softlighter - it looks impressive :)

Interestingly enough, the Softlighter has an extension on the umbrella shaft that fits perfectly in the Elinchtom umbrella mount. Many of us Elinchrom users are using this Softlighter and we've all concurred that it's a perfect fit. Not only that but we've also found that the 7mm version fits loosely. Go figure.

If you like the way the Softlighter looks, its price and versatility then order the standard version with confidence. You won't be sorry.

One last thing to consider is the fact that the 46" Softlighter comes with the silver and gold disc inserts. They do not come with the 60" and can't be ordered as an option. If you don't need the 60" size and you do portraiture then I would recommend the 46" version. I'm not a fan of the gold disc but I never use the Softlighter without the silver disc. It adds some contrast and specularity that makes the face and eyes pop a bit and I find it to be very pleasing. It's a wonderful look and really brings out the eyes and adds a nice sparkle to the catchlight.
