I'm actually looking for two pieces of advice here, first I'm looking for any tips on shooting car shows. 95% of the ones I attend are outdoors but vary in the time of day. But as I'm not much of a morning person I generally shoot afternoons to evenings. Even if there is just a cool angle you found that you like to shoot cars with let me know, I'm feeling the need to find something new. Which in theory shouldn't be hard since I just upgraded from point and shoot to a 350d.

Secondly I need help choosing a lense, I'm not rolling around in money since the camera purchase so lets keep that in mind. How much would I need to spend to get a decent wide angle lens? I'm not looking to make a living off my camera, just want to be able to get some good quality shots.

The kit lens isn't bad. I use it for Wa car shots.

I used the kit lens at the last car show and got a some good shots. There are some samples here : http://www.bastaards.org/Automotive.htm

I think the biggest improvement one can make to car shots is to change the angle at which you shoot. Secondly, don't be afraid to ask people to let you have a clear view for a moment. You can set up, wait for a nearly perfect moment when no one is in front of the car, and then ask the few that are around to stand by. Finally, watch your flash (fill flash) as the reflectors of the car will definitely 'respond.'
