what about this lens? is it a good one to add.. I need a telephoto and it sounds enticing. whats the scoop shutter heads? Should I get the canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM instead? I will be shooting some good paying wedding as well as hooters shoots in the near future. My old 100-200 canon zoom is only auto focus so I have a huge need for an upgrade and quick... I like having the 300mm with the sigma but I'm open for your opinions totally..

It's a great lens,. but heck if you can swing the 70-200mm IS you'd be better off,. that lens with the 1.4X will offer you everything the Sigma will,. plus IS and f/2.8 when you need it.

Also,. the 70-200mm really is quite useable for weddings..

Get the Canon 70-200mm f2.8L. With this lens you don't the sigma's one. WIth the IS functions, it is very very great.

Ray, just browsed through some of the photos on your site...Nice pictures!
The pix of Victoria from the Peak look very much like what I have in terms of composition.

Back to the thread, I almost bought the Sigma 100-300mm, the only holdup was the soon to be released DG version (not sure how soon though).

70-200mm L IS costs more than 2 times of 100-300mm...out of my reach at the moment.

The Sigma APO 100-300mm f/4 EX is a great lens. You won't be disapointed in it. Enquire of your dealer/salesman precisely what the difference between the current and the DG model is... I suspect you will find that it mostly comes down to having "DG" printed on the lens barrel.... :p
