Hoya filters

What do you guys think of them? I just ordered 2 UV and 1 CP. Great prices on EBay from good dealers. I got 1 58mm UV & 1 58mm CP for $32 shipped, and 1 52mm UV for $10 shipped.

Hoya make a range of filters, you should go for multicoated otherwise don't bother. I have a Hoya Pro-1, one of their expensive ones, I find it hard to clean so I don't use it. I've just ordered a B+W for my 2.8 IS, hopefully the coating will be better and easier to clean.

There are LOTS of discussions about whether filters are worth using to protect your lens, a search will bring up lots of opinions. Remember they're all opinions, like someone else said, ask 4 people about UV filters and you'll get 6 answers.

the S-HMC series are pretty good. i wouldn't use their other lines of glass filters on L glasses. just my $0.02 though. -alex

Unfortunately they aren't multicoated. I'll have to look into those though, they are a better quality I presume?

My Hoya circular polarizers seem to work just fine. The build quality is good, the threads are clean, and the rotating ring moves smoothly. What more could I ask?

Hoya makes great filters, although I typically use B+W. As luck would have it I was out today and used a Hoya Pro ND filter (first time I have used a Hoya at all) and it became (semmingly) permanently fused to my step up ring. It took me a while to get them apart but eventually I did. FWIW, I have never had this problem with B+W (brass) but that may just be luck of the draw.

I bought all Hoya Pro-1 series UV and polarizer for my camera at http://www.2filter.com/ . Their prices are even better than B&H and they were extremely nice, knowledgeable, and fast. Check them out. They carry the new digital polarizer.

COKE - looking at your lens list I wouldn't bother with filters. A decent filter will cost about 50% of your lenses, seems excessive to me. I only have a Hoya Pro UV filter on my L lens, really as protection. The others, including the nifty fifty that we both have, don't have one as they are too cheap to warrant one, IMHO.

I've just hit the order button on the Tamron, almost £100 cheaper than the Canon 28-135 after you add the price of the lens hood!
