Had to cancel a trip down south for pro ball for a job that didn't happen so left trying to fill the time with local stuff. Sectional Championships are doing the job. Mixed it up between AV and M to do some tests with the III, not liking the histogram on it - seems when it says perfect exposure it's hot, when it says under its good, when it says over its atomic.

#1 - The next frame has the ball in it but liked this one better with the hat flying and full body. He made the catch...

#2 - Apparently he thought that was ball four to win the game, nope, had to wait another pitch.

#3 - A walk off walk is how they won the game, he just touched first and was heading to celebrate. Odd helmet there, looks like a hole in it flying through the air but it's just the air holes.

#4 - Outfielder throwing it in...

#5 - Junior catcher, coached his sister in varsity volleyball bringing her up from 8th grade. Very athletic family, kids a good catcher and will be playing in college somewhere after next year more than likely. MVP of the game...

#6 - Eating some dirt late in the game...

#7 - The catcher above is now the pitcher as he closed the game for the win...

#8 - The coach celebrating as the dog pile builds...

...and my upload is still only 34% done to the client, this didn't kill enough time.

Nice shots Mike, I've had issues with my Mk III's and histogram/screens in bright light as well. I've just gotten where I use the highlight indicator more than anything else.

I expose in bright light until I start to just get hightlight warning flashing on some of the specular whites, just a hint of it. The screen looks very underexposed and the histogram says overexposed but it seems to be right on when I convert via lightroom.

Viewing them, they look like I've lost all shadow detail, but its not the case at all.

Thanks Liam, are you shooting RAW? Everything I shot so far that says perfect or slightly over is blown out - but yes the screen always looks under. Learning curve and have plenty of day games this week to test out more.

Yeah Mike I always shoot RAW, this is where me and many of my pro friends part theory.

I just dont see that shooting in RAW slows me down, I have my lightroom preset to automate my basic adjustments when I upload my cards and then I can tweek as needed.

I agree that getting it right in camera would be a little easier, but for the minimal extra effort, I'll take the security of being able to fix my wb mistakes. Yeah wb is 90% of the reason I shoot RAW.

As far as the screen, I've had really good luck with the chimping until I just start to get blinking on whites on the screen.

I don't have it happen as badly on my MkIII but on the 5D MkII I have the exact same thing. I am now shooting at what the camera says is underexposed by 2/3 to a full stop.

Like Bill, I adjust settings by being a blinky watcher. The only thing on the histo I really even check is the red channel.

I also shoot everything RAW

I shoot everything JPG, though know a few who do everything RAW as well. Tomorrow I have 3-4 games to shoot and will try to be a blinky watcher. I know the first game I got it that thing was going off like the III was being run on nuclear power and the results were not pretty. Another tog I talked to said he won't use his III in bright light, only the II or IIn, but I prefer to run two bodies.

...thanks P-E

I'm a blinky watcher as well. I think the III is a bit different then the IIn, but you will get it worked out. I switched to JPG when I got my MIII but do miss how much detail you can get back with the recovery slider in LR. With JPGs the whites start to look funny if you move it too much.

I like the first a lot Mike. #3 has a definite optical illusion going on.

Dan, you are correct - have a couple games to shoot today so will get to test it out some more. Though of course it's a dark cloudy day right now!

Thanks alessandro
