Alright so Friday I leave for my 3 week trip to Israel/Palestine. I am going as the photojournalist on the trip, its my first big trip so i'm super excited and a bit nervous.

We'll spend 1 week in Bethlehem living with host families and volunteering at the Bethlehem Bible College, a special needs center, a center for the blind, rebuilding homes destroyed by the Israeli attacks and helping out at some refugee camps. From there we'll spend 2 weeks hiking around the desert looking at different historical and Biblical sites.

I think my gear list is looking pretty good for the trip, you guys see anything that I may be missing?

Canon 40D
Canon Xti
17-85mm
28-135mm
50mm f/1.8
10-22mm
16gb worth of cf cards
2 batteries for each camera
Laptop and 250gb external hard drive

Any other tips or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a rocket blower.

I've never worked with external flashes before so i didnt think this was the trip to learn. I'll be hiking 5+ miles a day so no tripod.

I'm not sure on the telephoto. I could rent one if need be but i'm not sure how much use it would get.

List looks good.

Israel has a lot of stores, particularly in the bigger cities like Tel Aviv, where you can find things if you need to.

It's been years but I enjoyed my business trip to Israel.
At that time I had a Canon film camera and a couple of lenses.

Good luck.

awesome, and yeah I am super excited to see everything.

One more quick question. Do you guys think I really need to bring along the 28-135mm? It seems kind of redundant to carry the 17-85 and the 28-135. I like the 17-85 way more than the 28-135 but I'm not sure if I will miss that extra 50mm of reach.
