I posted some stuff up on my VII site if anyone is interested. WARNING the first few photos may be considered harsh. Beyond that there is some pretty decent work. Thanks.

Before I click it, what exactly is "harsh" ? I've been in threads where there's brutal images of wartime casualties on the websites .. and others where harsh is considered UFC fighting matches (pretty mild content in contrast)

Edit: Wartime casualties, thankfully I'm used to it being an old EMS person.

I think it'd be a good idea to not show the harsh images, first, in the slideshow, and perhaps have a warning on the front page that warns about potentially 18+ images, other than that you've got a good presentation gallery there. Loads fast and easy to navigate.

Harsh as in wartime casualties...

I like the set except for the last 2
They are nice pictures however they seem like a collection of random shots with no story behind them

That's really something Nick - what is the story behind the injured/dead (?) woman in the early frames? After the initial shock it makes me feel sadness for the whole situation.

Resarito Beach with the mules/horses is nicely artistic. The shot with the Marines breaking into the home really grabs you; great action shot, lighting.... a story in itself, and makes you want to know more about what's happening. Thanks for sharing. - Stu

Hey all, a little about the photos I posted.
The militay photos are from an embed I did with The US Marines 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2007. I was extremely lucky to pull this off as I did it on my own with no affiliation. I happened to meet someone personally who liked my idea and helped me with the process. I had permission from DOD, State Department, USMC, Pentagon and several other agencies. I was given access to some amazing training that from what I understand has been off limits to media and public. I spent two weeks aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard and a couple other ships that were part of the Fleet. I even scaled off the side of the carrier onto a moving RIB with a team of RECON Marines for a beach insertion at night. VERY cool. It was a 3 month project in total. As far as the photos... they were all taken in San Diego CA or just off the coast. The injured or bloodied were just actors and actress' from a company called Strategic Command that contracts to the military for realistic style training that includes a 40,000 square foot sound stage and pyrotechnics. I was doing a spec project on the training that the military goes through (Pre-Certification Training) before being deployed. I was scheduled to go to Iraq with the 13th MEU but, personal reasons perevented me from completing my preoject at the time. I was asked to finish the project recentlly with the 15th MEU (scheduling is under way) The other photos were from another project I am currently working on regarding the drug wars in Mexico and the effects it's having on Mexico's economy and a magazine shoot for a Police Magazine regarding K9 Units. So in a nutshell that's the 411 on my photos. Anyone have any questions I'd be more than happy to answer any. Thanks and I hope everyone enjoys them.

No intention of trying to fool anyone. This was an intense story all in it's own.

Nick,

Love the background story on these and the images are fantastic.

I see that you spent 3 months with these wonderful and brave people, what do you think is the hardest part for them when they are there or overseas?

I have always wondered how they do it for so long (1 or more years away) with the daily stress they have to endure.
