I am a bit confused when it comes to light metering. Can someone explain the differences between evaluative, center weighted, and spot (center & af point) metering? I've read my g2 manual, but this topic seems a bit greek to me.

I will give it a go, but others can probably do better...
- Evaluative is a measure of the scene the camera sensor sees accross the entire view. The software in the camera evaluates various points of the scene to determine what value it should assign to shutter speed and aperture. The algorithm (The software) it uses to determine the values, take into account the light levels from close up objects as well as those it percieves to be further away. It also takes into account flashes that the camera is aware of (providing data to the camera).
- Center weighted does the same thing but give a higher value when determining the shutter and aperture values to the center of the scene. Thus objects in the center of the scene are more likely to be correct, while objects to the outside of the scene are less likely to be correct. (At least as far as the camera is concerned)
- Spot means that it only uses the value depicted in the center aim point. I don't have my manual handy and can't remember if it adjusts this if you use an off-center aim point in my D60, which may be different from your G2, but the functions will be the same for the above explanation.
Hope that helped.
