View Full Version : I AM IN A 'CREATIVE & INSPIRATIONAL' FUNK...

I have been told, on numerous occasions by some extremely prominent photographers, (the names of which many of you would recognize), that my work is 'wonderful'. I sincerely try not to let that go to my head, nor 'influence' my work..... Lately, (for the past six weeks, or so), I find myself in a total non-productive, non-creative mode. I just can not get an 'insperational' shot....... I need to have some of the forum community out there, respond......Individuals who will go to my website, (my 'homepage'), and take the time to seriously look at all of the galleries...and let me know what you truly think.....@:

I just seem to be a little 'lost' right now and am not sure what direction to go in......Please respond........
Thanks, in advance, to the forum community....

Don't worry unduly, friend; this too shall pass. It's a rare and very fortunate creative artist who never goes through a lean period like this, and the only thing to do is go with it; keep feeding your supply of knowledge and visual experience by looking at books, magazines, movies, etc., and visit some places you wouldn't normally go to. Eventually, some new connections will start to form, or you'll get a new perspective on something you thought you'd run into the ground, and you'll be up and shooting again.
Self-doubt and despair are our worst enemies; I know them well!
Hang in there.

You have a unique style, which is good: I always like to see original styles and new ideas. For my tastes some of your images go a bit far, but that's just me. The very blurred effect and very soft effect are very nice, and I like that you do some "normal" style photos too - too much of any one thing gets boring.
To mention a few, "NAYTANIA P-2" is lovely, really nice, and "LADY ON A BALL" I really like too. Likewise the "Ninke" and "Natania" photos, which are of your style but not with such a strong effect, which is good. Your racing car photos are great, if you did them by panning you have a very steady hand :) Flooded street and venice rain are cool.
I can't really offer much advice about how to get out of your funk. I'd probably look around at different styles of photos and paintings, y and get out of your normal routine: go different places, see different people, that sort of thing. Inspiration can come at the most unlikely of times. one of my favorite (http://www.mrwild.co.nz/Featured/Art/slides/IMG_8862.html) photos (http://www.mrwild.co.nz/Featured/Art/slides/IMG_8892.html) that i've taken recently came from playing chess with my partner, which we don't usually do, while having a few drinks. Inspiration is all around us, we just have to open our eyes.
Good luck :)
btw The image on your home page is too larger, 500kb, i'd suggest making it a bit smaller to avoid having people get impatient and going elsewhere.

No need to post the same thing in lots of different forums.

An architect... perhaps something will interest you in Japan, maybe a stint of photojournalism exploring the designers/builders of your favorite cameras. Tiny housings and efficient use of space might interest you. Nostalgic, self-absorbed, non-commercial? Yeah, but who cares...

Do something different . read a book you have had on your list for awhile; go and see a couple of art shows; visit the zoo; fix the deck.....you need a breather to let your mind renew itself. Don't take your camera with you. Just experience the world and listen to the sounds of life.

Everyone goes through it. Try something you don't normally shoot. Extreme macros of flowers, IR shots of landscapes, car racing, whatever it takes to "clean your pallette".
I was once a bit burned out shooting 80 rolls of 36 a day, so I went to the zoo with a 1000mm lens & 1 roll of 20 exp B&W. It made me concentrate & choose my shots & helped a lot.

Yep the images are good quality. Your Good. Now for the problem, you think your good too and thats bad when it comes to creativity. Imagine for a moment that your images are crap and then you ll be back to where you where before... Dont linger there too long or you could become crap.
Theres a thought in that logic somewhere??????
