Hi , this is my second post on this wonderful forum. Its really nice to get so many replies ...another forum I have been a member of I have posted 15 photos and only got 6 or so replies so thanks in advance. Anyway I have recently started experimenting with flowers and heres a yellow tulip shot against a blue background . Any comments or criticism appreciated.

I think the second shot works best, although it is a little dark. I'm put off the first by the folds of the materia,l in particular the point where the stem is wrapped.
But I really like the the contrast in colours and I think with better light and those folds gone, this'll be a great shot.

I agree with Smudge, sort out the background for the first pic and it would be better. The second is good, I like the light apart from top right corner. Good shots.

I agree, the 2nd is better. I like the control you have over shadows, and the attention you've paid to the background - very nice. Flower shots are far too common, but you've done them well. The only suggestion I would make is for my taste, perhaps try and get a little more light onto the right hand side of the flower, but the graduated lighting is nice so don't make it even.

I love the second one. I actually like the "darkness" of it....it gives a sort of air of mystery to it. Very nice.

very well done number two is a keeper.A little light (a very little bit) on the stem would help the second one IMHO. Other than that beautiful.

2nd one all the way, the background in the first one is distracting

I am going with the crowd here and picking the second as my favorite. And I like the deepness and contract of the colors - I find too many pictures overly bright. Good Effort!

Well, I just have to be contrary! I like the first shot with the folds in the background. I think the light/dark patterns in the background are spectacular. The softly blurred out background is so traditional for this kind of shot. I think it's exciting to see something different.

Good work!

in pic #1 -if the one petal wasnt turned in, I think I would like it better. However, pic #2 is great...it has wonderful composition and is quite appealing
