Yeah, I'm in. I consider myself relatively competent with lights, but lately I've been thinking I need a kick in the butt to get moving forward again. This could be it...

Excellent. I think it would be interesting for us all to post our pics here -- sorta help keep each other motivated, and perhaps assist each in "being all we can be!" -- boot camp talk! :)

Well, I have my shoot tonight. Doing a real estate office -- they aren't out of work, but about as close as you can get. They had been putting off new shots due to expense. I am doing it gratis, but I pick location and setups. We will see what happens.
Anyone else post anything yet?

A heads up...keep an eye on your submissions and the rules. My submission got yanked by someone tagging it with "No-stobist-information" or something. Not sure what's up with that; but I added some info and resubmitted. It is currently appearing again; but who knows. Apparently I don't understand the rules/directives.

I saw your post, Celtic. Nicely done -- I thought rim lights were for buxom blondes only!
I shot mine Wednesday night, and should have them ready this weekend. I will post mine as well.

I'll look forward to your submission.

I am by no means an experienced photographer, but here goes. I think the pose and model look good. Subject is well lit and exposure is just about perfect. I do find the background, especially the window, a little bright and distracting. I do like how it is acting as a hair light though. If the background weren't so bright and maybe underexposed a little I think it would "pop" more and he would really stand out that much better. Just my $0.02! :)

I was wondering what would happen if:
We left the models right background the way it is originally.
We crop the models left background at that door looking object. Remove that tanish / wood tone totally. So the edge of the photo is that soft white color?
mattograph
20th of June 2009 (Sat), 10:03
You mean desaturate the door?
A note on the door itself Dude is a realtor, and actually he said he wanted a headshot that put him a little in the context of his job. So I picked the door. If I had it to do over again, I would have scrimmed the door with my handy bedsheets, and brought it down of the right side of the histogram so that the glass maintained some detail.
Anyway.......
