Please forgive me if this has been asked before, but I am wondering for everyday usage which is the better filter to buy...a polarizing or a UV....

What are your opinions??

Thank you!!!

IMHO, circular polarizer serves me better for everyday usage. I do have UV filter, but i mainly use it as a protector for some lens that does not already have a CP on.

I tend to leave a UV filter on my wide angle 10-22 pretty much all the time but I'd be interested to know how many people leave their polarizer on constantly?

It so depends on what you want to do. They are very different.

If I were operating only in a bright daylight situation with blue skies, then a circular polarizer is a normal thing to leave on the lens, as long as you know that you have lost two stops of light and as long as you can still get the exposures you want. Remember that a polarizer only works to your advantage when you are at the right range of angles from the sun (90 degrees, give or take).

On the other hand, if you are struggling to get enough light and that is forcing you to very slow shutter speeds or apertures that you don't like, then you better take off the polarizer.
