Waterfall HDR

Without tripod, three exposures. Waterfall just up the road from our place. This time of year there's tons of water coming down! Water is a bit blown, any other C & C would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, I'm having a little bit of a hard time telling, but are we looking up the water fall or down? I can't really tell which ways the trees are pointing. You filled the frame nicely with the subject, but I have little context to tell me what I'm really looking at. Maybe I'm just lame?

I can see this would be a very tricky shot. I am surprised you got so much definition out of the water using three shots. The white is blown out though. Did you use Av Mode for the shots? Maybe some + exposure compensation after you set up the AEB would keep it from blowing out.

I was actually shooting in Tv mode 1/80 shutter speed. I don't remember what the F stop was.

I was zoomed in quite a bit, that is the upper falls, there is about 20 feet of waterfall still below what you can see, and no I did not get wet :-)

a basic question from a novice, just wondering if i heard right - i was informed that you use av mode than tv as the dof might change which might be a bit of problem when processing.

Av Mode allows the camera to change the shutter speed only. Tv Mode allows the camera to change the Aperture only. Use Av Mode when you want complete control of the DOF. Use Tv Mode when you want control of the shutter speed.

i should have been clear, when i say use av mode - i meant use av along with a tripod when you are bracketing your 3 or 5 or what ever shots for hdr work. b'cos if tv is used and the dof is mucked with can they be good exposures for any later hdr work.

You should not use Tv Mode for shooting multi shot HDR's. If the aperture changes, the sharpness of foreground and background objects changes, even if the focal plain is in focus. That means the edges in the image will not line up, and will make it harder or impossible to align the images.
