I have been asked to photograph paintings behind glass that have a glare. Any suggestions besides using a polarized filter?

You could turn the painting a bit so that the glass reflections are not seen by the camera. Then, using Transform, or Free Transform in Photoshop you can "turn" the painting back again so that there's no distortion.

UV filter??...............
Agree with the above post........angle your shots to avoid glare.........and use the perspective tools in photoshop to straighten the edges.

Why is the artwork behind glass that has glare? Doesn't sound right. They do make glass with less glare just for artwork displays. Did you ask about having someone remove the glass for the pix? Very soft, indirect light would give you no glare also.

Don't! I've tried this too and it has never turned out very satisfying. At least for me as the photographer. It's as tough as shooting framed artwork with the added problem of glare, reflection, blur. If the owner isn't too fussy you can get it done as suggested above, angles, light, windex, photoshop, time....
