This guy gave me a shot in exchange for a smoke. Seems to be a fair trade to me. Nice guy and a decent picture, I wanted to jazz it up a bit.
What do you think? (Looks even better in print than on the screen)

Great image. His face looks like it has seen and done more than its fair share.

Nope, no release. I may have to go track him down and offer him a pack of smokes to sign one ;)

Yeah, you should have gotten a release.
When you print it, do you print each fragment separate, frame them, and then hang them together? I think it would look really cool if each section was framed separately.
Awesome shot, and btw, how did you approach him about it. I really want to get confident about asking people.

GREAT picture. Go get that release. Can i just ask how you did the boxes for that pic?. I have tried that sort of thing before and it's turned out crap.

I printed it as a single image in a 4x6 to see how it looks. I think I am going to do an 8x10 for my "portfolio".
I was walking by, he asked for money. I told him I didn't have any cash on me (true) and when he asked for a cigarette, I offered to give him a cigarette if he let me take a picture of him. He was happy to do it....

Just hit or miss as I have never done it before either.
I took the original picture, made a whole bunch of layers by copying small segments of the photo. Then I duplicated the image, deleted the background layer and started shuffling the small pieces around until they looked ok. I deleted the pieces I wasn't going to keep, did a stroke command on the inside of each segment that I did keep and made sure that the separation of the segments was even. Flattened the image and Voila!

Nice shot, and a great effect! One thing you could try for portraits is to get your lens at about the middle of the subject, vertically, it gives a better perspective to some shots.

It looks awesome, a great way of snazzing it up. I'm not sure how it would look, but you could try misaligning the different parts of it, making it a bit more crazy.
