Just the idea of being at Silverstone makes me shiver. I have fantasized about it ever since I first read about it many years ago.
The fourth pic is awesome.

Nice shots :) You're a braver man than I am, though. You wouldn't catch me lying down in the Silverstone pit lane, I'm usually looking over my shoulder in case I have to make a jump for it.

I'm sorry to say I think you would be disapointed in the reality of it. The place doesn't do British motor sport much credit. :(

" One year before, in 1954, when the newly-born Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix cars swam through the floods of Silverstone, England attached no great importance to the event. But now the picture was quite different. England's star Stirling Moss, drove a Mercedes car in the 1955 British Grand Prix ........................"
This was from the illustrated book The Big Race - The Story of Motor Racing by Ernest Rosemann and Carlo Demand.
I borrowed that book from my high school library in 1963 and I am looking at it at this moment.
My heroes were Moss, Fangio, Nuvolari, Ascari, and later Clark, Hill, Stewart and Mansell among others.
Even now, when I visit an old battle field I can still smell the gunpowder, hear the screams of the injured men and horses, feel the tension in the air.
It is the same with castor oil, burnt rubber, sweat and tears. It is a shame that we loose our great heritage.

But I digress. These are damn fine pics. Especially for an old fart like me.

Great shots! As mentioned, the low angle view is terrific. The resulting blur on the near portion of the racetrack gives me the feeling I'm right there. Now, did you get an inside scoop from the Williams team if they have made any major changes/improvements? I sometimes think they do more testing on raceday than at the testing sessions.

What they were doing was changing the tryes ALOT(every 6 laps). They must of been trying out different componds.Because as seen in this shot the middle of the trye looks very "scrubed".

Did you just have general public access? Didn't think everyone was allowed int he pitlane?

Cool shots by the way!

No we had Team Guest passes. So that gives us access to the Whole of the track(not just Stowe corner). And access to the pits(where the vans and stuff are parked).

Cool, how did you blag them? Any idea if press passes for test days are given out the same way the race passes are given out?

It is the same with castor oil, burnt rubber, sweat and tears. It is a shame that we loose our great heritage. Me too, Skip. Moss was my personal hero. He was here in the early '60s. What a wit! He borrowed a Lotus Elite & took 3 laps on our track which is very difficult to learn. 13 turns in 1-1/2 miles. 1 lap to learn the track, 1 lap to break the class record, & 1 lap to wave at the crowd!!! He even autographed my competition license! I remember reading about one race, "From 9th to Victory in 60 Laps", where the pit boards read, "Faster! Moss 40 sec!" (behind you). 40 sec behind & they were in a panic! Why not? He won that race by 56 seconds!
Nuvolari: What a LEGEND! Running a race at night in a underdog Alfa, maybe at the Nuremburg Ring or Mille Miglia, he turned his lights off so the Mercedes guys wouldn't see him coming. I think he won that one!
When the movie "Grand Prix" came out, we sat in the 12th row with a thermos of hot Castrol R so we could sniff it during the racing scenes. Too many great stories, & to few of those guys left.

You can ONLY get a press pass if you work and supply pics to a magazine/motorsport website.

We were lucky at the test day.Because we "mingled" with them and some williams guest's  .And by looking at some of there shots on some F1 websites from that day,i got better shots than them.I think i need a change my day job

Will investigate, shouldn't be as strict as it is for race days when only the BIG agencies and papers get in.

Those are sweet shots. Must be nice to live close to a track. I live close to a NASCAR track (Texas Motor Speedway), but it's really not the same.

Those kind of pictures are why I bought a good camera and hope to try and take.

Excellent work Alan. This is the kind of benchmark I'd love to reach in my photography. :)

You planning on doing any of the other test days at Silverstone? I've been to the last couple but bad weather hampered both of them! :(
