View Full Version : How do I know if these Hoya CP's are good?

Been reading about Circular polarisers and the excellent sticky thread. I will soon have a 50d with 17-85 lens which I believe to be 67mm thread. I don't have much more than £50 to spend on one, but I want to avoid the crap. Are there any differences between these ones? Are all Hoya CP's good or do they make budget ones best avoided?

The filters in the green box are not multi-coated filters and should be avoided IMO. Look for something that says MRC or multi-coated on it, or even sometimes 'digital'.

In Hoya filters, look for he ones that are S-HMC. Those are their best multicoated ones.

^^

The Blue Box is the 'Hoya Standard' line, with single coat for about 94-95% transmission (Green box is uncoated according to 2filters...is that the 'Hoya sub-Standard' line ? ).

At the minimum...Hoya HMC or Pro Digital, then HD, then SHMC best
