I just purchased the RC-1 remote for my rebel XT. I can't seem to get it to work. Am I doing something wrong, or does it not work with the XT. I have it set in "M" mode. Thanks!!

Did you switch the remote on?
Did you set your camera into 'timer' mode?
Are you pointing the remote directly at the front of the camera?

I have the RC-1 which came with my Elan IIe film camera, and have used it successfully with the XT. Follow the suggestions previously given and it should work fine. Also, make sure the batteries are not discharged.

Good luck

I have that remote and it works just fine on my XT. On the rear of your camera, near the backlight button for the little LCD is a button with a clock on it. Push that until it moves from the square to the little timer. Then use the #1 on the remote to activate the camera. Setting # 2 on the remote is for a timer shot.

DUDE! you are the man! Thanks, I was dreading returning that thing to Amazon. All it was was the timer selection like you said. I didn't see that in the directions. Thanks again

do you have to hold the shutter down
or is it once for open shutter and once for close?

i have been eyeing gettign a remote..contemplating wired vs wireless.
what are your thoughts...

Pressing the remote button once in bulb mode will open the shutter. Pressing it again will close it. So just press it and leave the camera alone for as long as you want and press the button again to stop.

hey Jackal, is that 420ex flash you have wireless? IE.. can I hold it off to the side and fire it while shooting from the front? Also, can you fire it only and not the built in flash on the XT? Thanks!!

okay i have a question about this remote, the 350XT and mirror lock up. even the guy at the camera shop didn't know if it could be done and how to do it.

i enable mirror lock up.

hit the button on the back of the camera for the timer.

activate the RC-1. the shutter opens and closes, no mirror lock up happens.

*confused*

The RC-1 has a 3-position slide switch on the back. Inside position is "off", middle position releases the shutter and mirror "immediately", and the outside position has a "2 second delay".
It is only in the latter mode that mirror lock-up can occur. When you press the button on the remote, the mirror flips up, then 2 seconds later, the shutter opens, and after it closes, the mirror flips down.

Fetching, one push on the button locks up the mirror, a second push activates the shutter. That caught me when I first got my 20D.
