Ani shot this falls and I though I would take a darker copy of it in ACR as a base and then pull in a brighter copy of the RAW file and overlay it and use a Mask to do selective uncovering. Some will enjoy the dark copy, some the one with selective lighting, not everyone enjoys the same thing (thank The God's :) ) And you? Good, bad or indifferent?

When you do that, use as Soft of Brush as you have so the edges aren't visible. Everyone knows how to use a Mask correct? Does PSElements3.0 have Masks in it now? It is a really nice tool to use for all kinds of working on photos.

I don't like where the wind was blowing the leaves around making them out of focus :(

Questions/Comments welcome.

Enjoy.

The selective mask for the light:

Turns a so-so shot into something to look at. At least I think so :)

Hi Ken, Looks like Ani got a good one here. That fall is so thin and long it should be named "Laser Falls". ;)
For the record, I prefer the dark version, I think. :D

I like the lighter version...I like how the path is brighter, seems more inviting.

What if you're in hell, and you're mad at someone, where do you tell them to go?
To Your ROOM? ;)

The added lightness to the lower portion of the waterfall need to be a smoother transition. Right now it looks to sharp a contrast, try masking it more gradually.

I really like the shot btw, did you use a nuetral density filter?

I really like the shot btw, did you use a nuetral density filter?1st, thanks for looking and leaving a comment Chris. The purpose of the PP was to make certain parts of the photo have sunlight on them. Sunlight can and usually does leave really easy to see distinctions between where the light hits and doesn't hit. Usually much sharper than what I have shown with PP (post processing).
Question: If I had never posted the first two shots/screens and all you had seen was the last shot and no info on the shot at all.

What would your comment have been then? Go ahead and download the top post and make a lighter version and blend the two like you were explaining how it should look. I would like to compare the two if you don't mind. I am here to learn :D Always wanting to learn!

No, we don't usually use a ND filter since we usually shoot RAW and can PP in PS.

Thanks again for you comment and looking forward to your upload of a smoother blend of the two.

Had I not been aware of an edit, my thought would have been that the line on the waterfall looks a little off; however, your correct that I would not have called it unnatural. I certainly wouldn't try to claim I know what looks more natural than nature does.

Light does hit things in rays, but the lower portion of the falls didn't seem to have the light hitting high enough.

I made some changes to the image, and went further than blending it a little more. It is a fantastic shot (I agree with you about the blowing leaves). I enhanced the lighting effect you already added, brought it up a little higher on the falls, and tried to add some more color to the shot.

MrChevy, you r lightened shot looks very inviting and beautiful in colors.

ChP, your variation looks like a lit-up night shot.

MrChevy - I like the mask!

OK, very nice job. I do enjoy viewing your work (and your wife's) and your descriptions/explanations. And I am very partial to the area you photograph.
