I apologize up front if this is redundant from a couple other threads I have started.

I have been approached to sell some photos for use on a business website. A local/regional business. Three to five year license. A main (home) page "web size" image, a couple secondary page images, etc. I have never sold for web use before. Been doing research all night and in some ways I have learned alot, but in some ways I am more confused than before.

I need some guidelines or suggestions for pricing. I have found a couple resources and examples that appear informative...

http://rising.blackstar.com/getty-images-new-web-pricing-structure-makes-sense-for-rm-sellers.html

and

http://www.becomingphoto.com/webusage.html

Are these realistic in today's environment?

I'll be honest, I want the sale, but I also don't want to screw either myself or the client in the process. I won't do microstock pricing, for example.

Thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.

No thoughts?

In the first link, it illustrates Getty's factoring process, though I can't confirm that as I don't have an account with Getty, though for the purpose of discussion one would assume since Getty is a current stock company, then it would be practical in the current stock world.

The second link is also interesting, though when I sell I don't sell by size (pixels) I just go by usage. EDIT: that said, I actually do ask by size.. but I don't price by size.

They look reasonable, though, those are my 0.02 pence and a quick glance.

Just read this, it offers an interesting counter-arguement to the above threads.

You're right, very good read.

While in theory I agree with his Google stance, I have to think about that one a bit more. Part of me thinks his point is good, part of me thinks it's shortsighted. Otherwise I like his points.

I feel the same way, I wish some more people would chime in, though, this is getting to be a dialogue,

Ok, set my prices. Not as high as some of these examples, but certainly not virtually free, either.

Not sure, but I think I got the polite "brush off". Sort of a short "Thanks. Don't call us, we'll call you." kind of response.

Either my research was faulty and I overpriced myself, or they were looking/hoping for something way cheap. I did set prices where I would be willing to negotiate down a bit, if necessary, and not feel like I was selling out.

Oh well.
