300D and iPod?

I've read a bit on this forum about portable storage...I have a 20 gig iPod with the Belkin media reader. It works just fine with my P&S camera...however, it doesn't work with my Canon EOS 300D. Does anyone know if buying a card reader THEN attaching it to the Belkin media reader, which is attached to the iPod, works for downloading photos, i.e.:

card reader to belkin media reader to ipod = free up space on card.

Any tips, inexpensive solutions?
