I can just about cram the following in to my old LowePro backpack:

EOS 20D with Tamron 28-75 attached
Tamron 19-35 with hood attached
Canon EF 70-210
Sigma 550 Flash

Also in the pouches are a couple of filters, cleaning materials and the battery charger and USB cord.

I want a toploader bag and the Tamrac Velocity's look really good. Would the above fit in a Velocity 7 (without cramming) or would I have to go with the 9 ?

Cheers,

Adam

The 7 is small.. You'll need the 9 if you dont want to cram!!

Something that isn't really evident on the Tamrac website is whether you can open the bag up like a back-pack as well (like the LowePro above) or if all access is from the flap in top. I am just wandering how easy it is to fish around for a different lens or the flash when needed.
Thanks for the opinion on the 7. But you think it would hold it all in cram mode?

I saw the '7' today at Ritz camera, nah, it is too small. I'll get the '9'. Pity they don't have a way to open them up from the "face" to get them organized. Still, I want something I can lug around easily and get the camera out quickly when needed. It works.

It opens from the top, plus has a front pocket and elastic netting. Also, it takes all their modular add-ons. I like it, but you do need to dig. It is easy to carry in many different orientations. The digging part is pretty easy. I usually carry:
1. 20D with 28-70
2. 200mm
3. 100mm
4. 50mm
5. Sekonic light meter
6. Wired shutter release
7. Circular polarizer
8. Wolverine Hard Drive
9. Various CF cards
10. Lens cleaning brush, paper, fluid, puffer
11. Two 580 EX in external modular bags
12. One Stroboframe VH 2000 externally under the central strap

Hi all, hey this is my first post :-).
Why don't buy a backpack for trekking? There are some items less expensive than tamrac crumpler or lowepro.
When i going out to mountain with some glass and other gear I can take all and plus some wear and food etc.
There are many backpacks with two spaces separate a lot of space and protective for the gear.
The backpacks dedicate for the photography are limited for the use; the only I saw that allows the transport of other things is the lowepro aw trekker with the daypack optional, the other are or too small for the gear or for the other things.
It's wrong my point of wiew?

Much better than my Italian! (I am learning it right now - just spoken).
As for the backpack, not bad idea but I think the Tamrac is better suited with ideal size, (not much bigger than I need) and easy to pull the camera out quickly (maybe not to find other pieces of equipment). Also comfortable (appears to be) for those long walks. (I'll be doing some of those around Italy this summer!).
