Well I am sending my 20D in for cleaning and to check the AF points and make sure it is focusing properly.

I have read the info on Canon's site and called to get the okay.

But I have questions for those who have used Canon's Cleaning/ Repair Service.

When you send it to them, you pay for the shipping to them.

Then they get it, and how do they let you know what it is going to cost?

Who pays for the shipping back to the customer?

I am sending it in no matter what. Just wondering.

Thanks.

For non-warranty work, you'll get a written estimate in the mail. It will include a form that you must sign if you approve the work, and send your form of payment (CC number, check, etc.). The estimate will include return shipping, but has the disclaimer that if there is something that needs replacement that wasn't included in the estimate, separate approval and payment will be needed. You'll also get a service/repair number that will allow you to track the repair online at Canon's US web site.

For warranty work, no estimate is necessary. Communication should include an e-mail or postal mail (the service rep I talked with told me to include an e-mail address for communications) that will give you a service number which you can use to track the progress of your repair. Once the repair is completed, Canon will ship the camera back to you at their expense.
