Can someone help?

My 20D has stopped working. Its 3 months old and yesterday it would switch on, focus, give access to menu but when the button was fully pressed it would not take a pic. The batteries I tried were fully charged and I also tried changing the CF and lens to no avail.

Try putting the camera into manual focus with the switch on the lens, and try taking a photo with that. If it doesn't work report back and i'll think some more.

Thanks Tim, just tried that it did not work, I have just discovered other threads relating to this problem apparently its quite common.

I guess it's autofocus not working, I wasn't aware that it was a widespread problem.

Autofocus appears to be working fine working.

Yes, every 20D is faulty and we're all lying about how much we like our cameras

LOL I knew it! Its an entire Canon Conspiracy :)

Nah I am waiting for the one that will come out after the 20D. I've bought enough electronics that I paid a lot for only to have them drop in price a month or half a year down the road. So I can wait.

Roy, did you try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery grip?

Thanks for the replies.

I dont have battery grip - yet - maybe won't ever.

Apparently the firmware programme 1,4,0 and 1.5.0 were especially created upgrades to download into the 20d to overcome problems. The 1.5.0 software was specifically for my problem - shutter release failure - . so its obviously a well known ,well complained about problem if canon had to address it in such a way.My version of 20d has this software, so it should not have happened .I reinstalled the latest version 2.0.0 with no joy , so its off to the repairers then.

The camera had been working well and I was more than pleased, but now I will have absolutely no confidence in working with it waiting for it to crash, especially when the software designed to solve the problem doesn't work.

Did it come with a one year warrenty? Maybe you can have Canon fix it for you since it sounds llike it is a Canon Manufacturing Defect? Or maybe the store you bought it from will replace it?

Nah I am waiting for the one that will come out after the 20D. I've bought enough electronics that I paid a lot for only to have them drop in price a month or half a year down the road. So I can wait. But if you buy the 50D (or whatever the 20D's successor is going to be called), the same thing will happen - it will drop in price after half a year or so. And I can assure you that there will be people complaining about all kinds of problems with the new camera.
