Hi guys,
Me and my girl friend amanda just came back from NYC. WOW WHAT A CITY! Its the most amazing city I have ever been in. Its always busy! PEople are EVERYWHERE!
I wanted to take a picture where it captured the busy feel of NYC Timesquare, so I decided to compose a shot with my gf walking down timesquare and trying to capture that specfic busy feel. It was good that everyone in the picture was not looking the camera except my girlfriend so it sorta gave the feel tht everyone had somewhere to go. kinda hard to explain. I did a bit of photoshopping in the picture. Tell me what you guys think of my work!

I think you expressed the hustle and bustle of Times Square in this pic. I like it. Pretty lady too.

Very cool picture, I've tried it from time to time, but it seldom gave the appropriate effect.
Did you zoom in or did u photoshop it after?

I photoshopped it to get the zoom-like motion blur. :D

Nicely done! I think you went just a little overboard on the saturation

I really like that effect...
That is similar to what I am trying to do at one the markets near by...what were your settings?
How much of it was camera? and how much of it was Photoshop afterwards?
Cheers...

It's a commonly used effect, but works really well here, good photo!

This is a fantastic photo! I absolutely love it, but I, and a few others here are wondering how exactly you did this. The camera settings, also how you photo shopped it. I hope you don't mind sharing this information with us all. That's a very awesome affect, and thanks for sharing!

Very nice, I like it. The color and blur all work together great.

I would be glad to share!
Ok, the image started like this straight out of the camera. I put it on Aperature priority. ISO100. Using Canon 20D (Tamron 28-75)

Then what I did was created a new layer in photoshop which contain's amanda's body. The background was then blurred out using zoom blur. I den flattened the image and played around with the leveling and Walla! Done. Simple.
I just printed it out on 8x10 gloss paper! IT turned out really good.

Just a tip... take it as you will.
Try out layer masks. Appy your blur to the entire image, then add a mask. Fill it with either white or black to either show or hide the effect (CTRL-BACKSPACE or ALT-BACKSPACE). Then use any brush tool or gradient to paint the effect on or off. If you fill the mask with white to show the effect, use a black brush to hide the blur. If you paint off too much, just paint the opposite colour.
If you use a soft brush, it makes a nice transition effect. Any shades of gray will partially show the blur.
One advantage (for example) is that you don't have to flatten the image or do any strange work to apply another effect on the entire image. It's much more flexible. Once you're used to it, you'll see and understand how powerful it is and can be.
Good luck... and nice job.
