I was fortunate to be in San Fran for a couple hours this past Memorial day weekend. I made it to Lombard street for a few snaps.

I posted this on flickr and didn't get a warm reception on this pic. i even went and pasted it on a few critique/rate type groups and didn't get much feedback. I really like the shot, but it doesn't seem to draw the same feelings from others. I am curious on everyones critiques on this. i have a thick skin so please tell me what i can do to make it better or have shot better. Thanks

Technically it looks OK, sharp bricks, nice vivid greens. What I'm not sure about is what you are trying to say with the shot.
Is it the brick road, the car, or the bright buildings?

More of a classic car on a classic road or something to that effect

i think the shot should show a more curvey aspect of it... this doesn't look like the "curviest road in the world" at all... or at least gives that sense.

I agree with stuartie. This shot looks OK from a technical standpoint, but has WAAAY too much going on in it. Simply put, it appears to be too busy for my taste. :)

1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass? ;)
If the main subject is the car, try cropping the image from the top, right down to just above the street sign. This will eliminate those little jags of sky, as well as all the business of the buildings in the background. IMO, That will give you a much more dynamic image that mostly includes car and road. ;)

Yes, I think this draws a lot more attention to the car and road, don't you? :)

Thanks. That was definitely one of the points that kept bringing me back to the shot

New cropping definitely adds to the picture. I like this version better.

Looks more like someone's driveway in the cropped version. I like the original
but I think maybe more timeless with the people gone. Just an idea

I don't really think it shows the unique character of Lombard Street (as ozzroo said, it looks like someone's drive) and I think the picture could do with a little straightening. Very sharp and good colours though.
