My first shots with my new 100-400L . I have had this lens for about three weeks but have been unable to go out and about with it until today. i was set for a day shooting kite sports but the wind didn't show up!!
Anyway i just shot the local K9's.

Nice shots Jon. That 2nd one would be perfect for the ball except you chopped a little of his tail off :( Love the DOF. Very nice shots.

WOW! Now I wish Dell came through with those 100-400's last year for $160! Nice shots!

Yeah, that tail really sucks.
I was thinking about sorting it out with PS but decided against it.

Great shots. All the great animal shots on the forum seem to come from that lens.

I still like #2 even if his tail is chopped off. He looks so happy. Good frame job too!

J.Skyman:
What focal length were you shooting at between 100 and 400, and what distance were you at from the dog? Great picture. I know now from these shots that I'm getting the 100-400 next month.

Hi,
These were shot at 400mm @ f7 ish. I was really suprised myself as i hear this lens is soft at the longest end!
I am not a good estimater of distance but i suppose i was around 100m from the target.

I think the 2nd one is a great shot. I wouldn't think twice about the tail, most people will be too busy looking at the other end and the nice bokeh in the background: it just adds pop to the subject. Nice lens!
