Mrs. Downy Woodpecker brought her fledgling to the suet feeder for the first time yesterday morning. The little one sat on a branch while Mama got a big load of suet and delivered it.

Today, all three members of the Cardinal family came by -- Dad, Mom and their not-so-little-any-more girl.

The blue jay and the red-bellied woodpecker were in the neighborhood as well.

Do I have a single solitary photo? Nooooooooooo. The weather has been so awful -- rainy and not just overcast but dark, truly dark -- that the only hope of any image is with terrible flash.

And they say we may not see the sun again until Thursday of next week.

And I foolishly replied to a thread asking if anyone wanted to be the Title Fairy by saying that I was looking around nervously while not wanting to be noticed by the Title Fairy. Note my new title.

Sorry to hear it JG, we are on our 23rd dry and sunny day with temps that have varied from the low 90's to a much more reasonable 70's but I just don't have the time to go out and shoot.

Have baby owls within 6 hours and less of driving for Burrowing or Great Gray and I can't get away. Have fledging Bald Eagles two hours away or baby hummers only 45 minutes away and I can't get away.

With a new pup in the house and a few other home priorities and the foolishness in accepting various photo gigs with differing clients through the last several and nest few weekends I have locked myself into not pointing the camera at the stuff I love to do.

Yes, the weather is truly miserable here in Jersey. On the bright side, I'm getting caught up with uploads, and can maybe get motivated to burn some DVDs for my archives today.

It seems that no one in NJ is going out birding lately, our listservs are really quiet with sightings.

I heard New Jersey has deliberately made a turnpike to scare people away.

It seems that no one in NJ is going out birding lately, our listservs are really quiet with sightings. It's hard to go out birding -- even in the backyard -- when there's just not enough light to shoot. The best shot I've had in days was the fog from my office window (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=8093161&postcount=1).

I heard New Jersey has deliberately made a turnpike to scare people away. It's designed to get you to keep on moving, just go right on through, folks, nothing to see here... That way we have a fighting chance to keep our beaches, Pine Barrens, mountains, lakes and other goodies to ourselves...

Then what's with all the toll booths? I've been fifty-cented to death on that road a few times.

Even still, the end of that road can be worthwhile. Cape May is nice at the right times.

Cape May is nice at the right times.Wrong road: you're thinking of the Garden State Parkway. That road, unfortunately, takes you through NICE parts of the state which we'd rather people didn't know about. But we figure if we charge enough and annoy you enough, maybe you'll stay home...

This whole thread is inane...

but more accurately it needs an "s" inserted somewhere in the middle of "inane".

Hey, only 8 more days of this dampness. The weather reports say that Friday the 26th will be "partly cloudy" so it's looking up for the east coast.

A cubit is the distance from the king's elbow to the tip of his middle finger. About 18 inches.

Heck, Google can convert:

I want to know how you're going to get 2 rhinos in Jersey.

If it floods up to that point, I guess they'll find out. ;)

(It's a hotel type thing in HK BTW).
