Hi everyone, can someone tell me if I print a color photo in gray scale using the printer settings, is that the same as converting a color pic to B&W using Photoshop?

Thanks!

I am not a photoshop pro, but I do know that there are several different ways of converting to B&W which yield distinctly different results. Also, different printers would do the conversion differently. So...I think the answer to your question is definitely no. Whether you get results you are happy with from printing a color photo with the color turned off depends on the photo, the printer and the application that is printing it. In most cases, I would think that you would be better off doing some sort of conversion in a photo editing program first, but I am not 100% positive (closer to %80)

OK, thank you guys! I'll learn how to do it in PS then. Appreciate the help! I just got PS and I'm finding it difficult to learn, or maybe I'm just trying to go to fast, but I'll keep at it, got to much invested now. lol

Like was said earlier, you should convert to B&W yourself first for best results. Here is an excellent tutorial (http://www.gimpguru.org/Tutorials/Color2BW/) on the different methods for conversion (happens to use GIMP as the photo program, but it's close enough to Photoshop that you should be able to figure it out).

Get a basic book that teaches you how to use the tools and check the help for tutorials. Then get this book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0735714118/qid%3D1114910467/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-4197553-6795341).
