I definitley like the pictures. My only suggestion in the color ones if you havent it done it yet is to run white balance on them. Then i would try to tame the bright red. Especially on the hat. Its very harsh. Once you tone the red down a bit i think they would look fantastic. Love the black and white group shot! Keep up the good work! A neat little trick you can run on the black and white one group shot, is to have your kids only in color while the rest of the pic is B+W. Itll add an extra punch. I would do it for you if you posted a color version of it so you can check out what it would look like!

I will post it for you, no problem. There is only one of my kids in the group shot, she is right in the middle(to the right of the one with his finger up to his mouth), I have one where you can see her a little better, but its not as good of a shot. I dont know why I couldnt get a bigger picture to upload, so I am not sure if you can work with that one or not.

Fun!!! Run Auto Contrast on your B&W for more punch.

Great pictures. I can't wait until our boy/girl twins are old enough to play. I agree that the black and white ones are a little flat and could use more pop.

Here you go Jenn. I used lightroom 2 to do this. First i white balanced the image, then i toned the red down a bit, i then sharpened a bit, followed by using a desaturated brush to isolate her in color only and grey out everyone else, then i increased the contrast in the desaturated portion of the image. I did this in quickly in 10 minutes even though it sounds like it might have taken longer. I missed a bit around her cheek which i would jump into PP to mask out but you get the general idea here. Hope you like it!

Lol, its fine, that is where I tried to upload it from to post on here, but for some reason it wasnt working. I love that picture, would you mind if I posted it on my facebook page? Dont worry I wont take the credit for it :) I just think its really cool. I am going to try and do it myself when I can get a long enough kidless moment, and I will post it for you to see. It took you 10 minutes but will probably take me an hour as I am not so great with photoshop yet  I am still trying to get the hang of this new camera, it is my first DSLR and jumped into it being completely clueless. I have read "understanding exposure" once and am about to read it again! Thanks for you time and help!

Go ahead and post it to your FB! Yeah ive been a big fan of using this effect when ever i want to focus on something. In this case your daughter in a line of other players. Understanding exposure is an awesome book, im always referencing it from time to time. I also suggest "The Digital Photography Book" by Skott Kelby. Its a great book to help you understand photography and the basics of it.

Thank you so much! I have a few other books and have a few more coming to me that I just ordered, but I will definitely put that one on my list. It is hard to find time to sit down and read with all the kids running around, but I manage :) I appreciate your help, you have given me a little more courage to post pictures on here, without feeling embarassed :)

Im glad i was able to help you out. Keep practicing! You and I both are far from being great but as long as we have fun with it thats all that matters! Im glad i was able to give you some courage. I felt like yourself at first (i believe everyone does at first) but the best way to learn is by having us in the forum take a look at what your doing. Remember everyone has a certain style they love to shoot in, so when your receiving C&C just take from them what your looking for to improve your own personal touch.:D
