dual screen set up

i am now proud owner of 2209wa monitor and looking at setting up for dual screen my graphic cards supports this these are options available. i want to be able to put pallets on other screen when in ps so do i select the one large horizontal ? or custom? as want i also want to do is have the mrs and kids use old screen when they on pc so can this be set up for diff users and save or are setting got to be changed each time i want to use ps.
i have not calibrated screens yet or put ps back on my pc.

You either want a horizontal span, or dual view.

Try both, and see how they work for you.


Note, that is only one monitor is turned on, windows will detect this, and adjust the desk top accordingly.
However, sometimes an app, or window that was opened on the second monitor, and left there when the monitor was turned off, will not be visable if opened again.

Dual View is what you want and set the old screen as the primary monitor.

how do you like the 2209wa. I am hoping that mine don't have dead pixels. Knowing my luck, it's not going to be good. Sigh...

no dead pixels really quiet aswell really impressed with build quality the diff between this and my old screen is amazing. really like viewing angle get nothing change as move about.

looks like stretch will be best option as tried dual with dell as second monitor and resolution crap on both monitors .then put the dell as primary and the other monitor was just pixelated, i can have the dell on full spec but the other monitor then only gets lowest resolution and 8 bit colour.going to download latest drivers for graphics card as says version mismatch on nvidia control panel card is nvidia geforce 7900,gt/gto.

Ya, get the latest drivers and try again.
You are going to want to use dual view, as that is the best option for mismatched monitors.

I am currently running a 20" 1680x1050 and 19" 1440x900 with dual view on my GTX285 (but I have been running dual view for nearly a decade now with various video cards and monitors and can't go back to a single monitor).

I have noticed that when running horizontal span, that some programs and windows will open right in the middle of both monitors and if you go to full screen it will span across both screens.
With dual view, when you maximize a window it will maximize on the screen that the window is on, but you have the option of manually dragging the window across both monitors.

Also, take a look at Ultramon (http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon/), this is the best utility for maximizing the performance of using multi monitors.
I've been using it forever.

I don't think updating your drivers will help.

The 2209wa has a native resolution of 1680x1050.

This means 2 of them together, give a max resolution of 3360x1050.

According to nVidia, the 7900 series cards support a max resolution of 2560x1600.

Quite simply your current card can not drive both of those monitors together, if they both operate at thier native resolutions.

You either need to run one at below its native res, which, since it is an LCD, will make it look like crap, or get a better video card.


Something like an 8800GT will support 2560x1600 from each DVI port.

I'm currently running two monitors on an 8800GT, one at 1800x1440 and one at 1600x1200 :cool:

Quick (off topic) question on the 2209wa : what happens when you tilt your screen vertically? Does the image inside tilt automatically?
I would love to use a dual screen system in LR2 with the image in full screen on the second monitor, but I was wondering if it was easy to switch from landscape to portrait orientation with a pivotable screen.

the 2209wa does not have an accelerometer, it just has a stand capable of titling. any portrait orientation has to be set by the user using the video card's UI

Is it supposed to tilt your secondary display? I currently don't have a 2nd display to try this out.

i have a spyder3 and went to calibrate monitors last night it detected the dell which i did but i cannot get it to see the other monitor is this down to the graphics card?

i happily ran 1920x1200 and 1600x1200 on a 7600GT before upgrading my system so i could run CS4 with OGL..

goto dual view

then select change resolution (under Move CRT screen position)

you'll see each display, and will be able to adjust the resolution
