Is it possible to buy an external mount for a mic? The internal one is really debilitiating. When I change something or touch the camera too much you can clearly hear it on the video. How are other people getting around this?

Can you buy a shotgun mic or something somewhere?

I've seen a few people use the Rode VideoMic (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/363083-REG/Rode_VIDEOMIC_VideoMic_Camera_Mounted.html). Haven't tried it myself yet.

Here's a picture of a photographer using it on his 5D at a wedding I was at a few weeks ago:

we use rode videomic. it's cheap and has shock-mount. the 5dII has automatic gain so it boost the mic up to catch everything, not really a good thing.

RODE mic is great for the money.

I've seen some great deals on these. I picked up a mint one for $95 shipped on Flea Bay.:) The external mic on my HV20 gets a few too many stares but it truly makes a difference when the "whining" of the motor is no longer heard. There is nothing worse than hearing mechanical sounds while trying to record a baby's first "coos".

Which model is the Rode mic? I know there's one that cost much more than the other.

Wow, I just tried out the Rode Videomic and it's pretty nice. Easy to use with a couple of different gain settings. Other than bumping my head on the thing looking through the viewfinder (I'll get it one day), it's pretty good.

Anything to get rid of the annoying "click click click" of changing settings while shooting works for me, thanks for the review on the rode..I'll look into it.

I suppose I also need a video editing program now, damn canon for not including one.

I've been making movies then just sticking them on my harddrive without having the ability to look at them
