I just purchased a Canon Digital Rebel XT. I have two Sigma lenses that I used on my film Rebel. The lenses worked flawlessly on the film camera, but are not working reliably on the XT. The salesman told me the lens may need to be "rechipped" by Sigma. I'm sure there will be a charge and a considerable wait for the lens to be modified.
I made it clear to the salesman that it was my intention that my 28-200mm Sigma would be the primary lens on this camera but now he acts like the problem is entirely mine to solve.
Any comments or help?

Sigma usually doesn't charge for it. How long ago did you buy the sigma?
Even if you lose it, don't worry. It's not that good of a lens anyways. ;)

My Sigma 105 mm macro lens would not work on my 20D. I bought the lens almost seven years ago and it had already made a trip back to the distributor when I got my EOS 3 film camera and it had to be re-chipped.
I phone the Canadian distributor for Sigma and they told my to ship the lens back to them. About two weeks later I got the lens back. There was no charge, the lens has been thorougly cleaned and it works perfectly. The only cost to me was the shipping to the distributor.

Glad to hear that Sigma took care of the problem. That is what the store told me to do, but I can't call Sigma until Monday. Hope I have the same experience as the camera was purchased to have for a 5-week trip starting in mid June.

Doc, the lens is 3 years old.
AFAIK they will usually re-chip when the lens is under warranty. I know my sigma is 7 years, but it's still working with all the cams out there. :)
