Aside from putting it in your pocket, which is already full of dirt, dust crud, and other objects that I don't want on the inside of my lens cap.

When I pull a body and lens out of my bag or Pelican case
I take the cap off the lens and leave t in the case.

Haven't lost one yet and they always go in my pocket. My pockets are lovely and clean though ;)

The pocket like most people are going to say, how about putting a UV filter and not carrying the cap anywhere?

+1 for just shoving them in my pocket. Never had a problem with crud or dirt, the OP must just have particularly cruddy pockets. ;)

Either in my pocket, or in my bag.

I use the umbrella principal. If I have an extra one in the bag I will never need it. :)

Put it in your pocket, then blow it off before you replace it?

My Think Tank Change Up bag has nice little stretchy flat pockets on the front face which hold the lens caps perfectly ... and keep them clean!

The little tether strings are really annoying, especially if it is windy!

I have oompa-loompas that follow me around and carry them. When they are not available it is pockets/bag.

the only time i use a lens cap is when the lens is off the camera.

I just throw it in my pocket, and blow on it if there's any dust on it.

Goes in the bag when the lens comes out of it (in the same compartment).

I also use my pocket or sometimes put it in the bag. When I had my SX10 I used a stick-on cap cord and found it a little annoying so I don't use the built-in cord on my Ebay caps with my 50D.

The cap cords are nice if you're in the habit of loosing caps.

Lenses are capped while in the bag and, once on the camera, the cap goes into my pocket. Have not lost one yet in 36 years of shooting....gawd, am I THAT OLD???

I do the same thing and have never lost a cap in about the same number of years ;-)

I usually just put mine in my pocket.

I generally wear a shirt with a breast pocket on it.... even t-shirts (what I normally wear).

I put the caps in there, while I've got the camera out. Then while putting the camera away, I just pull the cap from the shirt pocket and replace.

It works. When I don't have a shirt pocket, I put into my shorts pocket.. which I don't like.. so whenever possible, I try and make sure I have a t-shirt with a pocket when I go out to shoot. It's one of those little anal things, but it keeps me happy! 8-)

I can remember the first time I could not find the cap after an event. I have a tight bag, thank heavens and everything is snug. But I now only put the cap in my right front or back pocket, no matter what. If I have a jacket on, it goes in the right pocket. If I have no pockets, it goes right back into the bag in the same pocket every time. I see people trying to figure this out all the time, just do what works for you. As a pro, when changing lenses happens more often than you'd like, there has to be a solid procedure. Otherwise, your gear suffers. So, for me, pockets on the right side, all lenses the same size (mine are 77mm), or else back in the bag.

It either goes into the pocket or in the bag.

I used to have a little stick on cord thingy on my old eos 300v film camera, and the lens cap fitted both my lenses. It never annoyed me hanging down, it did occur to me to buy another one when I swapped to digital, but my lenses are different diameters now, so that would annoy me!

One thing I found with it after a while was the sticky stuff stopped being sticky after a few years, so the cap would detach itself, which is asking for it getting lost.

I either hold it, throw it in my pocket, or put it in this little sleeve thing on my neck strap.

I have a POTN vest so my caps always go in one of the 4 zillion pockets. The pockets on the vest are usually a little cleaner than my shirt or pants pockets. Never lost a lens cap, however I have found a Nikon one! :D

In the pocket, or in a side pocket in the bag, or I don't bring it along.

I either hold it, throw it in my pocket, or put it in this little sleeve thing on my neck strap.

Either you're shooting with 52mm lens cap lenses (50 1.8 )... or your strap's really really wideee O.o

Tiny strip of velcro on each lens cap and in the strap of my 7MDH. I just stick the cap in there when I shoot.

After actually losing my lens cap a few weeks ago I have now started putting it into my bag whilst I am shooting and then replacing it when I go to put my camera away.

+ another 1 for the pocket. Cap is always on my lenses when they're not being used. When I'm going out to shoot, I just put the cap in my jeans pocket and blow it off before putting it back on.

I always put it in my left pant's front pocket.

Using the same place all the time helps me remember where it is.
