Had the chance to do my first newborn shoot today. Beautiful 8 day old baby girl. I think it went pretty well for my first try, definitely not as easy as some of you make it look though! C&C appreciated!!!

awe how precious, you did great for your first time!!

3-6 could use a boost in color, the colors seem kinda flat, also I'm guessing you used a flash?? Did you bounce it off anything, if not I would try bouncing it. They could also stand for a little sharpening.

I might play around with #3 to show what I mean about the boost.

It didn't translate well taking it from your post to my post, but you get the idea.

Thanks Rachel! I actually did not use a flash, just a single light & reflector. I'm no expert on lighting, I prefer outdoor natural light shoots. :P

I see what you mean about the color. I was going for a softer look than my usual super saturated colors. I like what you did with that one though, I will have to play around some more before giving them to the mom. :)

I love #1 - and I think you did pretty good for your first time! Newborns are the toughest thing I do, and you are right - I don't think people understand how hard they are!! lol
That being said, my advice for next time would be to try and get a little more on the baby's level, and watch your blankets. See how on yours the blanket crops into the baby, make sure when you are shooting that the baby is positioned so it doesn't do that as bad. A little is always going to be there, but I think if you work on that it will help. Especially with white and black, because then you burn and dodge it, and it doesn't look like a blanket anymore, it looks like the baby was cute and pasted - does that make sense??
As far as PP'ing these, I think they look a little flat, and could use a boost in color, like said before, sharpening, and curves. Also, if you have a plug in for skin smoothing, or know how to it makes the babies look so much softer, just don't over-do it!
Hope that all helps - very nice for your first time!!

very good for your first time...
I think they are a nice series...
If I had to pick a favorite I think that it would probably be #3...but I do agree about the boost in the levels, color, etc.
Overall, great job for the first time...and no, it is not as easy as it sounds...
